Privacy Policy
Effective September 23, 2026
Overtone collects no personal data. There's no account, no advertising, no analytics and no tracking. Everything you create in the app stays on your device.
What stays on your device
- Microphone: Overtone listens to your instrument to show pitch and tuning. Sound is analysed live on your device and is never sent anywhere. It's only saved when you choose to record a take.
- Camera: used only when you record a practice video. Videos stay in the app unless you save them to Photos.
- Photos: Overtone can add videos to your photo library when you ask it to. It can't read your photos.
- Recordings, sheet music and settings: your takes, imported PDFs and markup, presets, practice history, goals and streaks are stored in the app's own storage on your device.
- Apple Watch and widgets: the app shares metronome controls and practice progress with your own Apple Watch and Home Screen widgets. This happens directly between your devices.
- MIDI: notes from a connected MIDI instrument are used live and not stored.
Local network
If you turn on Ableton Link, Overtone exchanges tempo and beat timing with other Link apps on your Wi-Fi network. No personal information is included, and nothing is sent over the internet.
Backups
If you use iCloud or computer backups, the app's data is included in your device backup like any other app's. That backup is handled by Apple under your own account; we never have access to it.
Deleting your data
Delete individual recordings or scores in the app, or delete Overtone to remove all of its data from your device.
Children
Overtone is suitable for all ages. Because it collects no personal data, it collects none from children either.
Changes
If this policy ever changes, the new version will be posted on this page with a new effective date.
